RCI Co-director Anthony Broccoli was interviewed by NBC News New York as a part of a story on how a pattern of more frequent warm weather years affects ocean life. Watch ithere.

The year 2014 was the warmest year across global land and ocean surfaces since records began in 1880, according to separate data analyses conducted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA. Read about it in the New York Times here.

RCI Affiliate Malin Pinsky is co-author of a recent study published in Science,“Marine defaunation: Animal loss in the global ocean”comparing rates of marine extinctions to terrestrial extinctions, including spatial patterns and vulnerability. Stanford researchers believe that the social cost of carbon pollution per ton is more than the U.S. government currently estimates.  The study, published in Nature Climate Change, finds that climate change could affect the economy over time, creating a larger overall cost. More about the study in Scientific American here.

RCI Affiliate Robert Kopp is co-author of an analysis published in Nature, that uses advanced statistical techniques to reconcile the gap between tide gauge measurements and scientific estimates of the various factors that contribute to sea level rise, providing scientists with more precision in how to predict future sea level rise.
