Mark Aakhus investigates the relationship between communication and design, especially the uses of technological and organizational design, to augment human interaction and reasoning for decision-making and conflict-management. He uses multiple methods from discourse analysis and computational social science to examine how the uses of language and argument shape the content and direction of controversies and deliberations about climate and environmental matters. He is currently the Scientific Advisor and Management Committee Observer for the Cost Action 17132 – APPLY: European Network for Argumentation and Public Policy Analysis. He is a Professor in the Department of Communication and the Associate Dean for Research at the School of Communication and Information.
