Monday, March 20, 2023. 1:45 PM. Leveraging Multi-Scale Data Sources for Sustainable Soil Management. Yushu Xia, Woodwell Climate Research Center. Sponsored by Department of Environmental Sciences. More information. In person or Remote Live option.

Improving soil health through sustainable management has emerged as a promising natural climate solution; however, assessing ecosystem services (ESS) associated with soil health remains a challenging task. This talk will elaborate on utilizing multi-scale datasets, which include field and lab measurements, survey and literature data, and remote sensing images, to quantify crucial ESS outcomes such as soil carbon, greenhouse gas emissions, and ecosystem productivity across various spatial scales. At a broader scale, the talk will explore the use of data fusion and modeling approaches for refining ESS evaluation and guiding policy development. At the field level, ESS monitoring optimization for supporting management decision will be presented. Finally, the talk will address research needs to bridge ESS with environmental health assessment.
