December 12th marks the five-year anniversary of the Paris Agreement, and coinciding with this, is a renewed opportunity for the future of U.S. climate action. With this anniversary and hopeful opportunity presented by the Biden-Harris administration, it felt fitting to share how four higher education institutions joined the Climate Leadership Network during a tumultuous 2020. Vassar College and Miami University both signed the Climate Commitment deep into the global COVID-19 pandemic. Aligning climate action and public health and signaling the importance by making an institutional
commitment to eliminating operational greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing overall resilience and adaptive capacity to withstand climate impacts. The University of Pittsburgh and the St. Mary's College of California both joined the Climate Leadership Network right before the pandemic took hold in the United States. Even as they were responding and adapting to new operations, they were able to keep momentum and approve their Climate Action Plans during the summer. Hear from these four higher education institutions on why and how they joined the Climate Leadership Network and the benefits, opportunities, and challenges each have experienced in their climate action journey.
