In 2015, twenty-one young people sued the federal government to demand a science-based program to reduce U.S. GHG emissions on behalf of themselves and future generations. Since then, the case has wound through the courts. Where is it now? What will happen next? What difference will it make? Professor Payne will explain and speculate on the Juliana case, and will provide an update on other climate change litigation.

Cymie Payne studies global governance of the environment and natural resources with a focus on climate change, the ocean, and war. She is Associate Professor in the Department of Human Ecology, SEBS and the School of Law, Rutgers, and works with the International Union for Conservation of Nature on treaty negotiation and international litigation.
