Monday, December 10, 2018. 5:00 – 6:00 PM.  Barrier Islands and Sea Level Rise: Coastal Community Transformations Planning Studio Presentation. Sponsored by Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy the Coastal Climate Risk and Resilience Program Planning Studio.

Studio members will present their research and resilience communications strategies developed to assist Long Beach Township in preparing for sea level rise, flooding and evacuations.  Barrier islands exist along much of the US coastline. They must transform themselves to accommodate increasing coastal hazards. New Jersey’s coastal communities are already facing major difficulties from tidal and storm flooding. Assessments of Long Beach Township pointed to a need for improved engagement and communication with full and part-time residents over multiple media. The studio addresses these needs with broad resilience communication strategies.
