Friday, September 16, 2016. 11:30 AM. Eastern Time. Webinar: Thermodynamic and Convective Evolution during Tropical Cyclone Formation. Zhuo Wang, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Sponsored by National Center for Atmospheric Research. More information here.

Thermodynamic preconditioning and convective evolution leading up to tropical cyclone formation are examined using high-resolution model simulations and the analyses of satellite and field data. In particular, I will address the following questions

Q1: What are the key features of convection leading up to tropical cyclogenesis?

Q2: What thermodynamic conditions promote such convective features?

Q3: What are the relative contributions of different types of precipitation to tropical cyclone formation? A two-stage conceptual model for tropical cyclone formation is proposed based on the analyses.
