August 8, 2012. Diversifying Power Utilities to Adapt to Our Changing Environment. PSEG, one of the ten largest electric companies in the U.S., recognizes that in the face of climate change, adaptation is an essential step in ensuring the future health and resilience of local communities and economies. The past several months have highlighted the destructive capabilities of extreme weather events, with severe thunderstorms that have led to numerous deaths and caused prolonged blackouts for millions of people. In order to further the development and implementation of adaptive measures in New Jersey, which is highly vulnerable to climate change, PSEG has joined forces with Rutgers University to form the New Jersey Climate Adaptation Alliance. By joining a diverse group of stakeholders from local government, business, state and county government, nonprofits, public health and insurance companies in a broad discussion about adaption, effective policies can be established and advocated for throughout the state.
