Freeze Frame: Diane Burko on Art and the Cryosphere

November 6, 2013. Freeze Frame: Art and the Cryosphere. Lecture and Reception. 6 pm. Diane Burko, Artist Burko discusses her recent trips to the Arctic and Antarctica and her process of transforming research and experience into paintings that confront climate change. This lecture and reception is co-sponsored by the Rutgers Climate Institute and offered in conjunction with the exhibition Diane Burko: Glacial PerspectivesCo-sponsored by the Centers for Global Advancement and International Affairs (GAIA Centers), as part of the 2013-15 Biennial Theme: Global Health! Related programs are part of the larger series "Polar Perspectives on Art and Science" which include collaborations with the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy, Department of Geography, Rutgers Climate Institute, and the Centers for Global Advancement and International Affairs (GAIA Centers) at Rutgers University.  The exhibition is a focus of the Byrne Seminar “Arctic Lens: A Journey to the Great North through Film” taught by professors Asa Rennermalm (Geography) and Hal Salzman (Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy) in the Spring of 2014.  A lecture series connecting art, science, and discussions of climate change will be presented at the Zimmerli Art Museum and at other venues throughout the university; please check the Zimmerli lecture website and Rutgers Climate Institute http://climatechange.rutgers.edu for more specific information.
